As we're going through our site archives, we're not only transferring areas to the ECU theme, improving content where we can. Our 3 + year old Big Apple Franchise Gathering report is one of those areas. Originally 3 pages, we expanded the whole thing to 6 pages. The changes should be easily noticeable if you've read/visited the report sections in the past.
New York City and its surrounding areas (including Northern Jersey) has a cable, television network known as WNYE. One of the shows on the network is, Secrets of New York. Which basically shows the public the hidden secrets of "the city that never sleeps." Last month, as reported at Proton Charging, Secrets... aired an episode about Tri-Beca. In one of the segments, Hook N Ladder #8 was featured.
While the entire country doesn't get WNYE, channel 25 on their cable lineup, their website has the segment on-line. In a streaming format.

We've updated more convention and events reports from the last two years, including Spooktacular 2006. It may inspire you throughout October! More covention and event reports will be added in later updates.
Over the weekend we updated our archives by adding event and convention reports for 2007. We know other conventions and events have taken place this year. If you're a field agent or a franchise who has a convention/event report, please get in touch with us. We'll add it to the site at a later date.
We've also moved and updated our technical articles and reading material to the ECU theme. Technical articles include quantum physics in relation to the proton pack and winterizing your equipment. Reading materials include, Tobins, columns by Drs. Venkman and Stantz, and the club timeline.
Finally we very slowly eased into the Media section by moving our 2006 GBI/Apple event to the Ecto Containment Unit theme.
The late Siskel & Ebert (now Ebert and Roeper) reviewed Ghostbusters II in 1989. Never having seen the segment, I was slightly interested in what the thumb critics had to say. No surprise they didn't offer a favorable review or a fair review. This is why I rarely, if ever go by what the critics say about movies.
If you're interested in seeing the segment, check out the archived link at At the Movies with Ebert & Roeper.
Action Figure Archives has scans of Sears Christmas catalogs going back to 1971. While many years will bring back the memories and heartache, the year that interests us the most for our intents and purposes is 1987. While we're not sure if 1987 was the first year Kenner released Ghostbusters toys, they were most likely hot toys for Christmas 1987. You know you wanted it all and believed the ones who took care of you had unlimited cash!
Interesting to note is the toy proton pack. I know its been 20 years, I don't remember the PKE meter hooking on to the pack. Of course the proton gun could and later on the toy trap. Seeing the pack as is has sparked discussion if the pack might have been a prototype. What do you think?
The Real Ghostbusters scan seems to have come from page 279. The site disables direct linking. To see the RGB and SilverHawks toys scan, click on the 6th page.
About a week and a half ago after getting the site updated and completed as much as possible (or so we thought) and with no current news or updates to post we could finally breathe a sigh of relief. We knew of future updates and being the hard working employees that we are, it bothered us that we couldn't really work on another site project, our Media areas. For the time being a newer section we have in mind.
We pulled out our ancient scanner from the closet, giving it another go by running some test scans. Their were some issues and regardless we do and will have to show patience. Since then we were able to get the first The Real Ghostbusters Magazine scanned. Once everything was organized and put on the servers we realized The Real Ghostbusters subsite needed to be redesigned enough to match the ECU theme and still have the right feel for its content.
What else is new? We've combined what would have been three Ecto pages into one main Ecto page. Adding new information on ECTO-1 and adding information about ECTO-3. We put back some of the pictures of The Real Ghostbusters, their equipment, and the ghosts they've caught from season 1. You may remember we had more then enough going back to early Summer 2007.
The next update to the RGB subsite will be to add the first issue of The RGB Magazine to the Lab. Its a special edition and will be up before Halloween.
Yesterday, we teased you with news of The Real Ghostbusters Magazines. The tease and the wait are over. The update we originally began working on going into the second week of October is up! Beginning with Fall 1989's The Real Ghostbusters Magazine. Which was a Special Halloween Issue. That's an added bonus for us.
For those who didn't know The Real Ghostbusters Magazine was published quarterly. Most likely beginning in Fall '89. It might have coincided with the second release of Ghostbusters II. Or it could have just been a coincidence. While we don't have every RGB Magazine, other issues will be added in later updates.
You can also access the first issue through The Real Ghostbusters Lab. Where more content will also be added in later updates.
Since our last update, we've been working on getting the next issue of The Real Ghostbusters Magazine on the site. The Spring 1990 issue was the one I seemed to have remembered all these years later. It was also this issue that had me wanting to find more issues and share them with our employees, clients and the fans. Some of Spring 1990's highlights included a look at Hook & Ladder #8, a case file about Egon and Slimer switching bodies, (did the episode come first?) and an article exploring future technology.
Ernie Hudson was at a convention (sorry we missed it) in Ghent, Belgium the weekend of October 13, 2007. Where he was interviewed by Julian De Backer. In the sit down interview, Ernie gives his thoughts and feelings about Ghostbusters 3, his insights on being the "4th Ghostbuster," the fan base, and confirms (as posted on protoncharging.com) that he will be doing voice work for his character in the yet to be confirmed officially and yet to have a title, "Ghostbusters 2008." While having Dan, Harold, and Ernie (nice) voice their own characters would be enough to satisfy most ghostheads, Ernie also confirmed in an unofficial capacity what we had been hearing about Bill Murray's involvement almost from the beginning. "I think all the guys are back. Yeah, I hear all the guys are back. Including Bill Murray. That's what I hear." - Ernie Hudson
When is 'Ghostbusters 2008' suppose to come out? "We were supposed to do it at the end of the summer, its been pushed back I think until January. I know its coming out within the next year." - Ernie Hudson
Mr. Hudson also talks about other aspects of his career, life, and speaks directly to the fanbase.
88mph Studios is releasing a new lithograph. If we had the hardcover from 2005 I don't think anybody would have minded that Clavet is selling another product. In fact we'd probably be happy, praising the guy for helping to keep the franchise going. Unlike the ECTO-1 lithograph, the Dr. Venkman lithograph can be pre-ordered through local comic book shops. <sarcasm>Pre-orders work so well for 88mph Studios, don't they?<sarcasm> The fancy poster features artwork from Dan Brereton. The striking resemblance to Bill Murray (and Dr. Venkman!) was used as a variant cover during the Legion series.
When I heard about this newest lithograph, I had pretty strong feelings about it. Its really too bad, if we had the hardcover or soft cover (so which is it?) already which we could have enjoyed often by now, I was thinking (even visualizing) how nice Dr. V (and maybe the other guys) could have looked framed and hung up. Oh well.
Huh, dentists? Instead of dealing with member development, employees at 1-800 Dentist (they are paying us for the plug right?) spent Halloween 2006 (news travels very slowly in a dentist chair, hah) re-enacting scenes from Ghostbusters. Their skit like fan film was funny with dead on characterizations. ie: Janine, Walter Peck.
If you like to dance, love the 80s, love punk rock/new wave, love Ghostbusters and wanted to put on a dance show what better way to do so by dressing up like Gozer and having a Stay Puft costume? That's what Area 51 (the dance troupe, not the government installation) did exactly, not necessarily in that order.
Slimer never had a real name, known on set as the onionhead ghost who would remind people of Bluto Blutarsky, a character played by the late John Belushi in Animal House. John was friends with Dan Ackroyd and Bill Murray. Most likely with Harold Ramis too who co-wrote Animal House.
It wouldn't be until The Real Ghostbusters episode, Citizen Ghost where we learn how Slimer came to stay with The Real Ghostbusters and how he got the name, Slimer. Could Slimer's name have been Mark Bryan Wilson in a previous life?
Mark was uncredited for his performance as Slimer and was the actor who wore the Slimer suit/costume. When Slimer would eat, the food would end up on the back of Mark's neck.
For more information about puppeteer Mark Bryan Wilson, take a look at his website.
The Fall 1990 issue of The Real Ghostbusters Magazine is now available for your reading pleasure. Some of Fall 1990's highlights included a short article about Universial Studios - Florida Ghostbusters Spooktacular, meeting the king of the ghostbusters fans, and a look at the origins of superstitions.
The Winter 1990 issue of The Real Ghostbusters Magazine is now available to read on those chilly Fall nights. Some of Winter 1990's highlights included a look at the special effects in Ghostbusters II, Globetrotting Real Ghostbusters, the results of The Real Ghostbusters Magazine survey/sweepstakes, and Egon's science/tech report about a manned mission to Mars!
The Winter 1991 issue of The Real Ghostbusters Magazine is now available to read on a warm Fall '2007 afternoon. Some of Winter 1991's highlights included a spirit who wanted to ruin New Year's Eve, (back in 1990/91) supernatural snacks that people can eat, meeting monsters with Peter, and a cool stand alone poster of Ray.
When you're done trick or treating, enjoy some Halloween goodies with the Winter 1991 issue of The Real Ghostbusters Magazine. Or wait until at least Thanksgiving passes.
Braxtanfilm released Return of The Ghostbusters to the international Ghostbusters fan base today. If you're having trouble watching the fan film or downloading the file(s), Proton Charging is mirroring the DivX version.
Ray Parker Jr. was a guest on NBC's Singing Bee tonight. The theme of tonight's episode was of course Halloween. Everyone who could wear a costume was, including Ray Parker Jr! The show opened with RPJ singing part of his hit song, Ghostbusters. What made this performance unique was that RPJ was wearing a stripped down version of a Ghostbusters costume. Along with a proton pack. Which without viewing the video on-line, the pack was never really shown. Oh and Ray (Parker Jr, not our boss) sang Ghostbusters. I didn't notice any lip synching here, which has been obvious in some past performances. I guess its understandable. Maybe Ray didn't mind singing it this time as the show used Ghostbusters to find new contestants.
Shaking your head in shame? I practically refused to have fun with this performance. I enjoyed Ray Parker Jr's live performance of Ghostbusters from Chiller Theater's October 2007. Don't mind the Dead Elvi in the band.
