On June 12, 2004 GB franchise CEOs, staff, and GBI employees embarked on a journey to NYC to visit many of the shooting locations (and where actual events took place) for our 1st Big apple Gathering. It was more then that, sightseeing around NY? Check. Investigating class IIIs? Check. Even better (yes their is more to a ghostbusters life then just the job) were the friendships. ("Real friendship.") It was a great time to say the least and I'm very glad we were able to do it.
I wanted to thank (if you cue the music, you're one fired paid intern) those who made this trip possible. Without these people, I don't know if this really would have happened.
Chris aka "ECTO-1" from the GB "community" whose NY GB Tourguide I stared at for hours ever since I discovered it. Because he came on our board, he gave us the confidence that indeed we could go everywhere we wanted in 1 day. Since 6.12.04, I definitely know its possible.
Will and Jess from the MDGBs who had to leave early in the morning to come up from MD and did not return to MD until pretty late that night. For remembering where other locations were, either filming or otherwise. To Jess for taking the pic of us male busters which should be a prominent part of our media section. For paying for our Cokes. Sponsorship came in real handy on Sat, didn't it? And for chipping in for the pricey parking.
A big thanks to my friend and colleague Bill Malkin who braved NJ mass transit to come up to the Newark area and kept safe when leaving late Saturday night. For getting us the directions turn by turn pratically to get us around the Big Apple. For having the confidence (I hope) in me to drive like I knew where I was going, taking all the extra pix, chipping in with traveling expenses, and paying for that delicious dinner later that night. If I left anything out, let me know.
A big thanks goes out to the Columbia University security guard/cop who gave us "inside info" on Ghostbusters and Spider-Man. And who led us inside the Butler Library to investigate those Class IIIs. If you're reading, email me about your pictures. Remember your "good side?"
To my sweetie Rachel who has been supportive as we planned the gathering for months. Hopefully next time, we'll be in NY longer. =)
To any other franchise CEO/staff who helped in the planning. Hopefully too we'll see you at the next big, gathering.
Thanks to GBI and our sponsors for "funding" the big gathering.
Special thanks goes out to Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ivan Reitman for turning what would be a Fortune 500 business into a successful movie 20 years ago. Without you and those who worked on the movie, I doubt we'd be having so much fun today and I wouldn't "have" to work hours on this site. ;)
