When The Real Ghostbusters know that the ghosts won't be escaping, its time to get them into the trap. How is this done? First we need a ghost trap which is hooked onto the side of the proton pack. Its usually thrown/slid out onto the floor, holding onto the end of the trap cable. It can also just as easily be held. A needle on the trap is located at the front. It will show whether a ghost trap is empty of full.

Now that the trap is set, The Real Ghostbusters can lower their throwers, bringing the ghosts towards the trap. To actually get the ghosts in the trap, the trap doors have to be opened. This is done by stepping on the trap pedal. Once the doors are open, a coned beam of light will shoot out from the trap. Within the light is actually a kind of energy which pulls the ghosts into the trap. At this point, The Real Ghostbusters have stopped firing the actual proton beams at the ghosts. This is because, its too late for any ghost to escape.

Once they're in the trap, the doors close shut, the energy beam will disappear, a red square light will blink, and the meter will confirm that the ghosts are indeed in the trap.

Ghosts can only be released from the traps by stepping on the trap pedal again or emptying the trap into the Ecto Containment Unit. Which we'll learn more about when we get back to the firehouse.

Now that The Real Ghostbusters have the ghosts in the trap, they need a place to put them forever. A safe place. There is no safer place for ghosts then The Ecto Containment Unit. Lets go to the firehouse and we'll learn about this home for ghosts.
